"Il Ghirone" B&B is the perfect place for either visiting Northern Italy or to relax and have some rest while on your way to Central and Southern Italy: it is only 2 hours away from the borders with Switzerland and Austria (or from Malpensa airport), less than 1 h 30' from Milan Linate airport, 15 minutes away from Parma airport, and less than 10 minutes from the nearest A1 motorway exit.
Our Bed and Breakfast is in a very convenient location right in the middle of Northern Italy, halfway between Milan (1 hour and a half away by car/train) and Bologna (less than 1 hour), in the heart of the so-called Food Valley. Other cities you can visit easily on a one day trip are Mantova (1h), Ferrara (1h 40'), Golfo di La Spezia and Cinque Terre (1h 20-40'), Rimini (2h), Florence, (2h), Venice (2h 30').
The historical nearest cities to our
B&B are Parma (15
minutes
away)
- beautiful capital of an ancient Duchy, with a long tradition of Opera theatre,
homeland
to Verdi
- and Reggio
Emilia (20') - heart of
the medioeval kingdom of Matilda of Tuscany.
Wonderful castles
and courts, from the middle ages, the renaissance
period and the Napoleonic era are scattered along the hills and
lowlands of
Parma and Reggio Emilia, artistic jewels to be discovered with our
deliciously rich
cuisine and our wine
tradition.
You can also visit the river Po and the
village
of Brescello (10 minutes away) - known as the original location for the
"Peppone e Don
Camillo" movies, with a nice dedicated museum.
A popular local museum is the Museo
Cervi
next to the Campegine-Terre di Canossa motorway exit, dedicated to the
old rural-agricoltural world and to the history of World War II Italian
anti-fascist
Resistance,
in the very home of the Cervi brothers, famous local resistance fighters.
Art exhibitions, musical and theatre festivals are held here,
especially in the spring and summer months.
Here at our B&B you can relax with long walks on the green banks of the river Enza or you can cycle along quiet countryside roads or cycling paths, among villas, courts and Romanesque churches.
